Unintentional accidents are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity. The #1 cause of death in children aged 1-4 years is due to accidents, (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, 2005) As a public health organization dedicated to improving the health status of it’s citizens we embarked on addressing the need to create awareness and educate all sectors of the population. We are focusing on informing and educating policy makers, professionals and lay persons, especially youth and parents!

PFS Jerusalem Training educators about home safety
The main topics we cover in our lectures and workshops and brochures are:
- Falls
- Burns
- Poisoning
- Choking
- Drowning
- Cuts
Our accomplishments during 2009 in the field of HOME SAFETY include training two groups of community educators; producing a booklet, leaflet, flyer (’Safety around the Well’) and a ruler indicating safe distances for bars on cots, stairs railings, sand on playgrounds. In addition, our publications list emergency telephone numbers, i.e. fire dept, poison centers, etc.

PFS has also participated in research examining the types of childhood injuries, the risk factors and the barriers to preventing injuries.
