Welcome to our new website, where we share the incredible journey of Patient’s Friends Society (PFS) in Jerusalem. Founded in 1980 by Palestinian academics and health professionals, PFS is a non-governmental organization (NGO) driven by a powerful vision of supporting those affected by breast cancer. In this article, we will explore some of the inspiring work carried out by PFS, its partnerships with prestigious organizations, and the recognition it has received for its exceptional contributions to the global fight against cancer.
Dedication to Public Health:
At the core of PFS’s mission lies a commitment to providing essential public health services to Palestinians. Through health education, counseling, and early disease detection programs, PFS strives to empower individuals with knowledge and resources for a better future. The organization also conducts research, collecting and analyzing data to gain valuable insights into public health needs. This knowledge allows PFS to develop innovative activities that directly benefit the Palestinian people.
International Collaborations:
PFS’s remarkable work has earned the organization recognition and partnerships with esteemed international organizations. Since 2005, PFS has been a member of The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), joining forces with global entities dedicated to combating cancer. In 2007, PFS proudly became a member of Reach to Recovery International (RRI), further expanding its network of support for breast cancer patients and survivors. The organization’s partnership with MAX Foundation since 2014 and its collaboration with the ABC Global Alliance in 2019 have strengthened its impact on a global scale.
Impact and Accolades:
PFS’s commitment to excellence and its contributions to the fight against cancer have garnered widespread acclaim. In July 2006, the organization received the prestigious International Achievement Award from the American Cancer Society. This recognition affirmed PFS as an exemplary model of excellence in partnership with the global community in the battle against cancer. Such accolades are a testament to the dedication and passion that drives PFS to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.
Global Cancer Ambassadors:
In April 2011, Carol El-Jabari, the former Executive Director of PFS, and Ms. Basma, a courageous cancer survivor, were selected as Global Cancer Ambassadors by the American Cancer Society. This honorable appointment recognized their invaluable contributions to raising awareness and advocating for improved cancer care. As Global Cancer Ambassadors, Carol El-Jabari and Ms. Basma have amplified the voice of PFS on the international stage, inspiring others with their stories of resilience and empowerment.
Conclusion:
Patient’s Friends Society is a beacon of hope and support for breast cancer patients and survivors in Jerusalem. Through its dedication to public health, collaborations with prestigious organizations, and the tireless efforts of its team, PFS has made a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals.
